On September 18th Elizabeth had her 3 year old well-baby check-up. She was healthy. I know this because the doctor and Heavenly Father told me.
By the next week Elizabeth had caught a cold. Fever, cough, runny nose, the works. After a few weeks she was getting better, but then General Conference weekend she was not feeling well again. So Monday, October 8th we were back at the doctors for an ear infection.
Usually within a few days after starting antibiotics Elizabeth is back to her usual self, but she wasn't. Fever was gone, so I assumed that being sick for a few weeks took it's toll on her, and she just needed some extra time.
The following Sunday Elizabeth fell asleep on Brian's lap, and stayed with him all during church. While he was holding her he had a couple people mention that she didn't look too well. During Elder's Quorum he sat next to our friend that is a hospital ER resident, and talked to him about our concerns and had him briefly look at Elizabeth. He recommended pushing fluids and food, and if she didn't perk up in a couple days, take her in for labs.
We watched her the next few days and worked hard to get her to eat and drink more, but she still didn't perk up. So the morning of Thursday, October 18th I called and made an appointment to take her in to see her doctor that evening. Little did I know where that appointment would take us.
