At 2 am I dropped Elizabeth and Brian off at the hospital. Elizabeth had woken up with a fever, and that means go directly to the hospital.
Do not Pass Go. Do not collect $200. That's what came to mind when I thought about taking her back to the hospital last night. What a sleep deprived Mommy thinks of.
When Elizabeth got fevers before it usually meant give her a fever reducer, snuggle, nap, movies, maybe go in for a look into the ears and get an antibiotic. Not anymore.
Now a fever means call the doctor, give her Tylenol, and take her to the hospital. She then has a blood culture done that they watch for 48 hours to see if any bacteria grows in it, which could mean a serious infection. Then take Elizabeth home when the doctors say.
Now last night, or early this morning, Elizabeth got there just as the hospital started to change over its computer system, so it's been a little crazy as the nurses and doctors figure out the new system. Sooo, Elizabeth's blood culture was left out, and unusable so we'll see how this visit goes. They did another draw, but she already had antibiotics. The doctor said this morning that Elizabeth needs to stay until she can go 24 hours without a fever when not on Tylenol. So far she is still spiking to 103 degrees without medication.
